Monday, July 16
Costa Rica placed 36th among 108 nations –which together account for 96% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product– studied regarding “responsible competitiveness” by the non-governmental organization AccountAbility. The survey was disclosed at the UN World Pact summit held in Geneva, Switzerland. Sweden tops the ranking, followed by Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Norway, and New Zealand. At the bottom, nations such as Nepal, Ethiopia, Mauritania, and Angola are listed. World Trade Organization director Pascal Lamy pointed out that the survey shows the importance which corporate social responsibility has in promoting trade and investment.
